Anna Pickett

First Grade Teacher

Welcome to First Grade

  • Hello! I'm so excited to be working with your child in first grade. My previous role has been teaching students in reading intervention with the Read to Achieve Grant, but I am excited to be returning to the classroom. I hope to use many of the strategies I have implemented in reading intervention to help your child learn and grow to their fullest potential. To do that, we will work on building their confidence and skill in reading and math in a variety of ways. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

  • Education: I am a graduate of Washington County High School. I received my undergraduate and masters from Eastern Kentucky University in Elementary Education. I have been Reading Recovery trained for 14 years.

  • Professional Experience: This is my 21st year of teaching. I have taught grades 1st through 5th as a classroom teacher. I also have 9 years of experience as a Reading Interventionist for grades K-5th grade.

  • Professional Accomplishments: My accomplishments have been seeing many children change their hearts and minds around reading. Seeing their newfound confidence and love of books is better than any awards that I could have placed on a shelf.

  • Hobbies/Interests: I have three children Lilly (14), Foster (11), and Murray (4). Most of my time is centered around them and their sports and activities. You can find me many nights at basketball, football, and softball/baseball practices and games. When I do have spare time, I enjoy spending time outside with our new golden doodle puppy (Winkle), and enjoying a nice dinner with my husband (Chris). I also enjoy spending lots of time in the summer at the pool, lake, and of course the beach!
