"I am have been a music teacher for 42 years This year will be year 33 in public schools. While still in college, my first teaching jobs were working as an instructor and designer for high school marching bands and drum and bugle corps, and teaching private lessons.

I truly love working with students: guiding them through discovery, dealing with failure, overcoming difficulty, finding success and ultimately learning to understand, and to create and perform music. It is a singular joy watching them figure it out and succeed.

My major instrument is the euphonium. I play on the one below, a Besson Sovereign 967-2.Â

What is your favorite kind of music?
Favorite to listen to: I like music that is interesting. When a style of music becomes corporately driven, formulaic, it loses me. I'm always changing my playlist, discovering new artists, but I always come back Jazz, heavy classical, some opera and Broadway, particularly the music of Stephen Sondheim. The list is too long, lol.
Favorite to play: Jazz. I remember being in college, practicing my 3rd trombone part for our jazz band. At the time, I was practicing music for five different ensembles. But I remember, being alone in a practice room working out my jazz music thinking about how all those jazz musicians in the early half of the 20th century just gave up conventional jobs and careers so they could play Jazz. I totally understood how it was worth it.
Favorite to sing: I love to sing harmony. Tradition American styles like folk, blues, jazz; choral works from opera to Broadway. And I grew up with all the great rock from the 70s to the 90s.
