Hi Edna,
I need your help because my friends all count on me to keep up a streak with them on Snapchat, but it is so much work. I have to send everyone a snap every single day, morning and night just so I don’t miss it. It just seems pointless if I’m not actually saying anything to them. I don’t want to be rude to my friends though, because they all seem to want to keep their streaks with me. Let me know what I should do Edna.

Hey Anonymous,
I think you should definitely keep your streaks with your friends. Having a streak is one of the most important things in a friendship. Sending pictures of the ceiling or half of your face to your friends twice a day may seem pointless, but it is so important in order to actually stay friends with people. Being kind to your friends is nice and all, but none of it matters if you don’t have a super long streak. The length of your streak is truly a testament to your friendship. If you and a friend don’t have a streak, then I hate to break it to you, but you’re not really friends.

Grace Schuurman: freshman at Lipscomb University, Tennessee
Q. What did you major or minor in?
A. Studio Art of Family Science
Q. How has Covid affected your college year? Did you have to do online?
A. Even though we're currently living on campus, most of my classes are in cohorts so I'm online every other class period. A few of my bigger courses are over zoom, and one is completely asynchronous. Being alone isn't the worst thing in the world, but I definitely can't wait until we're fully in person again.
Q. How do you feel about having to spend your first year in college while Covid was going on?
A. Adapting to college life is difficult enough, but having to simultaneously adapt to Covid world has been quite the challenge. At times, I definitely feel bitter that I haven't had a lot of the "normal" freshman experiences, but I'm also grateful for the unique opportunities that the freshman class has had. It's been difficult, but it's brought us together in a way that I don't think would have happened if it was a normal year.
Grace's piece of advice: My biggest piece of advice is to truly enjoy high school while you're there. It's ironic because I never listened to people when they gave me that advice, but it really is true. You only get to be in high school once so make the most of it and don't just wish it away!
