Kindergarten

Reading Tier 2:

Program- Open Court K Level

 We are now working on what sounds are made by each letter.  We are also learning about listening to sounds, identifying different sounds, and hearing rhymes. Ask your child to share one of our songs with you or tell you if two words rhyme. This week we are working on sounding words out and blending them together. If you see a book that comes home called a "decodable" that is something we worked on in class and you can read that at home to practice the sight words and patterns.


Math Tier Group:

In math groups we look for gaps between student knowledge and the Eureka curriculum. Students in this group are currently working on 1-1 correspondence (making sure they are touching the amount they are counting) through 20. We are also working on writing and identifying numbers through 20. Students are getting hands on experience with number bonds as well for addition and subtraction. 




First Grade

Reading Tier 2:

Program-Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) Green Level 1

We are working on letters and the sounds they make, first grade sight words, consonant vowel consonant (CVC) pattern words, and reading text fluently. We are looking for tricks and patterns in our reading. Our focus is to develop specific reading behaviors and understandings that will help us be an accurate, fluent reader who reads with purpose. 


Math Tier Group:

In math groups we look for gaps between student knowledge and the Eureka curriculum. Currently, we are working with place value and comparing double digit and triple digit (up to 120) numbers. We are also using quick math to make a ten then add on and seeing the relationships between number families. We are also working on our teen numbers for number formation and showing quantities. We are building in adding numbers using a ten frame and seeing numbers with place value blocks.


Second Grade

Reading Tier 2:

Program- Fundations Level 1

Units 10/11

We are working on being word detectives. We are learning about different patterns and "tricks" in the words we read often. 

We are focusing on blends and ending suffixes.

Currently, we are working on "marking our words." By marking different patterns in our words, it helps students identify chunks in new words to help them read the words correctly and more fluently. We are also working on practice text and fixing errors to see an increase in our word reading.

This we are currently marking:

-Circling "trick" or sight words

-Underlining digraphs (th, wh, ch, ck, sh)

-Boxing glued sounds (an, am, ank, ang, ink, ing, ong, onk, ung, unk)

-Underlining base words and circling the suffix 

-An underline per letter in a blend

-Scooping and writing a c under closed syllables
