Hello Families!
On this page you can see what we are working on in our tiered groups during this unit. Additional resources and games are listed on the tab for each grade. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks,
Mrs. McGonigal
Reading Tier 2:
We are working in the Open Court Reading Program for Kindergarten. This program helps students gain phonemic awareness, letter knowledge, and builds on their ability to blend letter sounds. First we got an introduction to letters, how to make them, and what sounds they make. This unit we are working on r, t, c, and o. We are also working on our phonemic awareness skills! Every week they will bring home a paper folded book to share with you!
Math Tier Group:
In math groups we look for gaps between student knowledge and the Eureka curriculum. Students in this group are currently working 1-1 correspondence (making sure they are touching the amount they are counting) through 20, number formation to 10, and counting to 20. We are also practicing number bonds that have a whole number of 10 and connecting number sentences to the pictures we are drawing.
Reading Tier 2:
We are working in the From Phonics to Reading Program in the kindergarten level to fill in gaps and give additional practice in letters, sounds, and early blending. As we build on these skills, we will work on reading fluency and gain more sight word knowledge. We are currently working on CVC words. A folded paper book will come home from this group in your child's guided reading folder. Please encourage them to read it to you :)
Currently we are on Unit 4 focusing on the sounds for k, e, g, and w within CVC words.
Reading Tier 3:
We will be working on letters and sounds through a deeper dive into our From Phonics to Reading program and using Phonics First. We are using our sound cards to blend and read CVC words as well as learning about "trick words" that do not follow typical spelling patterns. We are doing even more hands-on word work in this group to connect to the lesson in Tier2.
Math Tier Group:
In math groups we look for gaps between student knowledge and the Eureka curriculum. Currently, we are working with fact families. We are also incorporating number bonds and early numeracy concepts, like 1-1 correspondence using chip counters and base ten blocks (tens and ones) to help us solve problems to 20, count to 100, and learning how to know when to add or subtract for a word problem.
Reading Tier 2:
We are working in the From Phonics to Reading Program on Level A. We are working on reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, early sight words, short vowel word patterns, blends, digraphs, magic e words and gaining reading fluency. Every week they will bring home a paper folded book to show off their reading skills. Please encourage them to read it to you and celebrate their growth with them as they practice new patterns :)
Math Tier Group:
In math groups we look for gaps between student knowledge and the Eureka curriculum. We are currently working on 2 and 3 digit adding and subtraction strategies.
