Claypool Elementary is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment that prepares students for a rapidly changing world. Our school serves students in grades K-6 and is committed to providing high-quality, engaging education through the integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiatives, employability skills, and alignment with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) STEM priorities.
At Claypool, we believe in the philosophy of "Engage Everyone," ensuring that all students have access to STEM opportunities regardless of background or ability. Our approach to STEM education is holistic, focusing not only on the core areas of science and technology but also incorporating computer science, coding, robotics, and engineering projects that spark curiosity and creativity. Through hands-on activities, such as using Sphero robots, LEGO materials, and conducting dissections, we emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Claypool's dedication to developing students' employability skills is woven into daily instruction and special projects. We actively integrate Indiana’s Employability Skills Standards, helping students cultivate essential competencies such as communication, teamwork, flexibility, and initiative. These skills are embedded into our curriculum through project-based learning (PBL) activities, such as building humane insect traps, and real-world STEM career exploration programs. Our partnerships with community organizations like the Lilly Center at Grace College, Purdue Extension, and Parkview further enhance our students' understanding of how STEM applies to various career pathways.
Aligned with IDOE's STEM priorities, Claypool Elementary implements curriculum strategies that promote innovation, equity, and college and career readiness. Our STEM curriculum is mapped out with a clear implementation plan, extending from 2024-2029, ensuring that students continue to have cutting-edge learning opportunities. The school has a strong commitment to offering STEM career exploration days and extracurricular programs, including a robotics club and afterschool showcases that highlight students' learning and achievements in STEM.
At Claypool Elementary, we aim to prepare our students for future success, whether that be in STEM fields, higher education, or any path they choose. Our approach to STEM and employability skills, grounded in the priorities of the IDOE, is designed to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders and innovators.ol Overview Here
