Our Reading Block begins with a phonics lesson where our focus is letter sounds and patterns. We typically start as a whole group, break up into our table groups for a short phonics activity, and then join back together at the end. After phonics, we LOVE reading big books and practicing reading skills and sight words. After all of this, we break into literacy stations. These are small groups that work independently or with a teacher. They build independence in literacy and allow students to work at their own pace. After we complete literacy stations, we return to the whole group setting in order to read another story together.
