Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy Commitment to Families 

At Warren YES, we believe that parents and families are essential partners in a child’s education. Our faculty, staff, and administration are committed to building strong, respectful relationships with families to support academic success, social-emotional growth, and lifelong learning. 

We recognize that families and educators share responsibility for student success. Warren YES commits to creating meaningful opportunities for families to engage in their child’s learning and to strengthen home-school connections. By working together, our students will grow into productive, responsible citizens prepared for the future. 

Families are encouraged to: 

● Volunteer in classrooms and at school events. 

● Participate in workshops and seminars. 

● Attend student performances, celebrations, and school meetings. 

● Engage in ongoing communication with teachers and school staff. 

Rights Under the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA) 

The PPRA affords parents specific rights concerning student privacy, access to information, and the administration of surveys or physical examinations. Parents have the right to: 

1. Consent before students are required to participate in a U.S. Department of Education–funded survey that addresses any of the following “protected areas”: 

○ Political beliefs. 

○ Mental or psychological conditions. 

○ Sexual behavior or attitudes. 

○ Illegal, demeaning, or self-incriminating behavior. 

○ Criticism of close family relationships. 

○ Legally recognized privileged relationships (lawyers, doctors, ministers, etc.). ○ Religious beliefs or practices. 

○ Family income (except as required by law). 

2. Receive notice and opt out of: 

○ Any survey covering the above areas (regardless of funding).

○ Any non-emergency, invasive physical exam or screening not required by state law. 

○ Any activity involving the collection or sharing of student personal information for marketing or sales. 

3. Inspect upon request: 

○ Third-party surveys are given to students. 

○ Instructional materials used in the classroom. 

○ Instruments used to collect personal student information. 

Warren YES will notify families at the start of each school year of planned activities falling under PPRA, and provide opportunities to opt out. Parents may file complaints of PPRA violations with:
