FORM- describes volume and mass or the three-dimensional aspects of objects that take up space: can be measured from top to bottom (height), side by side (width) and front to back (depth). Form takes up space in either a real or implied way.
LINE- defined as a moving dot, a mark with length and direction that moves across a surface from point A to point B, can be THICK, THIN, VERTICAL, HORIZONTAL, DIAGONAL, CURVY, WAVY, STRAIGHT, DOTTED, BROKEN, and SPIRAL etc.
SHAPE- an area that is contained within an implied line, Shapes have two-dimensions, length and width and can be GEOMETRIC (square, triangle, circle, etc.) or ORGANIC (irregular in outline, ex. cloud, leaf, etc.)
TEXTURE- the surface quality or feel of an object, it may be TACTILE/ACTUAL (it’s real and you can touch it) or VISUAL/SIMULATED (an illusion, it looks real, but it’s not)
SPACE- volume that can be emptied or filled with objects, has width, height and depth: the distance or area between, around, above, below, or within objects, there is POSITIVE SPACE (space that is being occupied) and NEGATIVE SPACE (“empty” area, unoccupied space)
VALUE- refers to the amount of light and dark in a work of art, depends on how much light a surface reflects, can make an object appear more three-dimensional and realistic
