Movement Activities- click the link
Warren teachers Brielle Crowe & Michele Wolkun completed a graduate course on kinesthetic classrooms. For their culminating project they came up with ways to incorporate movement into virtual Morning Meetings activities. Check out the link above to find their awesome compilation of activities!
Caption This!- click the link
Use this provided PowerPoint with funny pictures. Students can make a funny caption to the picture, or make a "meme" out of it. Take multiple submissions from students before moving to the next one!
Cold Weather Scavenger Hunt- click the link
With the provided PowerPoint, with the timer, to encourage your students to quickly find things within their space that fits your prompts. This scavenger hunt is great for full-virtual days or if you are a full distance teacher!
Would You Rather?- click the link
Using the provided slides as visuals, go through the "would you rather" questions with your students. Ask students to share or explain their answer!
Conversation Wheel- click the link
Share your screen and chose a few students to share with the whole class a question that pops up on the random Conversation Wheel generator. Do as many rounds as you want, or come back to the wheel another day!
Memory Game- click the link
Use the above link to access the Google Slides. Have students either write down all the things they see or type them in the chat box.
Boggle Game- click the link
Use this fun game for an activity with your students who are able to read and create words with 3-4 letters. This game allows students to create as many words as they can in a certain amount of time using the Boggle Boards provided! Students only need a piece of paper and pen (or they can type on a Google doc).
Freeze Frame
The teacher calls out scenarios to act out (brushing teeth, catching your sister taking the last cookie, etc.) then then calls out freeze and students must freeze mid-acting. Students that move can be out, or you can all keep playing. Student with funniest/most theatrical pose can call next scenario.
Hello, Captain!
While all on mute, the teacher chooses one person to be "Captain". When instructed, Captain turns away from their screen and the teacher chooses someone to unmute and say "Good Morning Captain" in a disguised voice. The Captain then has to guess who greeted the captain by saying "Good Morning (name)." If they are incorrect they get one more guess.
True or False Game- click the link
This game is perfect to play during your virtual Morning Meetings. Simply present your slides and have students choose whether the fact is True or False. You could have them type in True / False in the chat and have them keep score of how many they got correct.
15 Second Rule Game- click the link
This is a fun engaging way to get kids typing and thinking quick on their feet! Students have 15 seconds to list as many items as they can that fit in a category. OR put them in breakout rooms and name them in a small group, counting how many they do, to share with the whole group!
Using the slides provided, listen briefly to the songs on the slides and ask the kids to show thumbs up or thumbs down if they like the song or not!
Feelings
Social-emotional topics are important. You could have students draw their feeling, draw an emoji that represents their feeling, or show their feeling with a facial expression. Students could then look at drawings and expressions to figure out how their friends are feeling. Being able to look at a peer and know from their face or body language what they feel, is an important skill for kindergarteners to begin showing compassion and having empathy.
Mystery
Mystery number. Mystery word. Mystery Letter. Mystery Student. These are all some of my favorites! They’re essentially guessing games. Let’s say you’re playing mystery student. You choose a student, and give clues to help students figure out who it might be. Every time you give a clue, have students write down the name of a friend they think it is. These rules are the same for the other mystery games too.
Fact or Fiction
Otherwise known as Two Truths and a Lie- One student says three things about themselves, 2 statements are facts and one is a lie. Classmates have to guess which statement is a lie.
Buzz
Students count from 1-100 and “buzz” on a specific multiple. (ex. Multiples of 6: 1,2,3,4,5,buzz,7,8,9,10,11,buzz,13,14,15,16,17,buzz…math activity)
Count to Ten
The goal is to count to 10. The hitch is that only 1 player can say a number at a time and no other communication is allowed. If two people talk at once, the team has to start over. This one is always awesome for kids because they think it is going to be so easy -it usually takes days! We have some great conversations about communication, ability to work with people who are different, effort/wanting to give up, and leadership. I always like to preface it with a question…who can count to ten?
Screen-Share Pictionary
Google Hangouts has a feature where guests can present their screen. Before they share their screen, email the drawer a word, have them go on autodraw.com and see if others can guess the word.
