How to use this Site

Click on the three lines in the top left corner to display the Sections.

The top Sections are for ENG 2 and the bottom Section labeled Honors are for Honors classes.

Each section covers five chapters. Everything that is bright blue and underlined is a hyperlink. All you need to do is click on the words for the link to open.

Some of these items you will need to make copies of, once you access the material, click File in the top left corner. Then scroll down to Make a Copy.

Types of Assignments

• Quote Response (bellringer): Quote Responses will be on the Chapter Google Slide. There will be a quote relating to the text in some way to analyze and make connections. You will have 5 quote responses for each section and turn in after each section.

• ARQs (After Reading Questions): These are higher-level questions to be completed after reading a chapter. Answers are to be more than 1 sentence.

• Character Bio Sketch: An ongoing assignment where you gather textual evidence to support how the protagonist is changing and what influenced the change throughout the novel.

• Reader's Response: RR are designed to focus on a specific reading strategy to examine the text on a deeper leveler.

• TQE (Thoughts, Questions, Epiphanies): After each section, you will complete TQE. This is a place to write your personal responses from the section, record questions you have (these will be used in Round Table Discussions), and your Epiphanies. Epiphanies are your "ah-ha" moments, ideas that have changed, etc.

• Round Table Discussions: These are student lead discussions and will be small group & whole class discussions.

• Building Connections Activity: These are a range of activities that connect the main ideas in the novel to contemporary events, provide historical contexts, and expand students knowledge.

KY Academic Standards

RL 10.1 Cite relevant and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

RL 10.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text, and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped.

RL 10.3 Analyze how complex characters develop over the course of a text, interact with other characters and advance the plot or develop themes.

RL 10.6 Analyze a particular author’s perspective or cultural experience reflected in a work of literature by drawing on a wide reading of world literature.

RL 10.10 By the end of the year, flexibly use a variety of comprehension strategies (i.e., questioning, monitoring, visualizing, inferencing, summarizing, synthesizing, using prior knowledge, determining importance) to read, comprehend and analyze grade-level appropriate, complex literary texts independently and proficiently.

RI 10.8 Evaluate the argument, specific claims, and evidence in a text, assessing the validity, reasoning, relevance, and sufficiency of the evidence; identify false statements and fallacious reasoning.

RI 10.9 Analyze documents of historical and literary significance, including how they address related themes and concepts and are refined by specific details.

C 10.1 Compose arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.

10.2 Compose informative and/or explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.

C 10.4 Use digital resources to create, publish and update individual or shared products, taking advantage of technology’s capacity to link to other information and to display information flexibly and dynamically. Use a variety of formats to cite sources.

C 10.6 Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the usefulness of each source in answering the research question; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.

C 10.7 Compose routinely over extended time frames and shorter time frames for a variety of tasks, purposes, and audiences.
