Integrated science is a class which covers a variety of topics from multiple areas of science. In this class, you will learn about selected topics from Astronomy (the Big Bang Theory, galaxies, stars, the Solar System), Earth Science (climates and weather, minerals, plate tectonics, cycling of matter), Biology (ecosystems, intro to cells), and Chemistry (the periodic table, properties of matter). Note: the topics listed here are just a sampling of what will be covered throughout the year, and not an exhaustive list. Students will be able to write a claim about a scientific phenomenon, support the claim with evidence, and use scientific reasoning to defend their claim.
Biology is a required science course for high school graduation. Biology is the study of life. As such, you will be learning about different aspects of living things. Topics covered may include: the chemistry of life, cell structures and functions, basic human anatomy, cycling of matter and energy, heredity and reproduction, evolution, adaptations, changes on Earth, and Ecology. Note: the topics listed here are just a sampling of what will be covered throughout the year, and not an exhaustive list. Students will be able to research given topics and teach small groups of their peers about those topics.
Course: Introduction to Chemistry and Physics
Prerequisite/Corequisite: Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology I, Integrated Science
This course serves as an introduction which integrates the basic concepts of chemistry and physics. Students learn how the physical and chemical properties of matter can be explained and predicted in terms of atomic and molecular structures and forces. They also learn how balanced and unbalanced forces influence the behavior of objects. The science and engineering practices are skills students will use as they investigate the natural world and develop solutions to problems. The primary objectives of this course are that each student will apply chemical knowledge and critical thinking to environmental and social concerns, as well as place an emphasis on problem solving & critical thinking skills.
