What is EcoTeam?
EcoTeam is an environmental education program based out of Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina. We strive to enrich the education of third graders in Buncombe County with lessons about the environment and how to "do science." By creating an interactive learning space, third graders can foster a love for the environment that will encourage them to care for it in a myriad of ways as they grow older.
Who does EcoTeam involve?
This program benefits local third grade students, their teachers, and Warren Wilson students that want to get experience in the classroom and positively influence youth. The partnership between WWC and local schools means maintaining healthy relationships with teachers is critical.
When does EcoTeam teach?
EcoTeachers, or the WWC students on the EcoTeam, will go into the classrooms during the school day for 2 hours per week, one day per week. Lessons are an hour, and another hour is reserved for transportation to and from school. There are up to 7 lessons that can be taught, one per week.
Where does EcoTeam teach?
EcoTeam has sent EcoTeachers to 10 different elementary schools to teach the EcoTeam curriculum. For the Spring 2024 semester, we are partnering with Estes Elementary and W.D. Williams.
