We are delighted to inform you about a new service we’re using to support your child’s maths education. The creators of Times Tables Rock Stars have produced a platform for boosting addition and subtraction skills, called NumBots.
Big Difference
NumBots is an online game and playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. These are critical foundations in maths so we are excited by the impact NumBots will have.
Logging In
Go to: https://play.numbots.com/#/intro or type in ‘Numbots’ into a search engine. Click on the green button and then select ‘Schools’, then ‘Pupils’ and then select ‘Warden Park Primary Academy’ from the drop down menu. On the final page, enter their username and password from the label your child brought home with them today. The children have been shown how to do this too. Once they’re in, they just need some quiet space to get on with the games for 5 minutes.
Please ask your child’s teacher if they are struggling to log in.
Important: please don’t allow siblings, friends or family to answer for them but do support your child if they’re stuck by modelling how you would answer similar questions. We would encourage you to read questions aloud for your child where appropriate.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of NumBots children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them the opportunity to play for 5 minutes, 3 times a week- or more if they would like!
Game Types
Story Mode – the emphasis is on learning the ideas and concepts behind addition and subtraction so it features more diagrams, shapes and question styles. Once the children have completed a set amount of levels, they will unlock challenge mode.
Challenge Mode – the emphasis is more on speed of recall of key facts, like number bonds to 10, doubling small numbers or adding & taking away in your head. The emphasis should be on playing in ‘Story Mode’ most of the time and ‘Challenge Mode’ occasionally to check their progress.
Please let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions or comments.

Times Table Rockstars (Y3- Y6)
What is it?
Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) is an online game that supports children's fluency and recall of times tables. Playing little and often will help to embed times table facts that underpin nearly all of the key learning in Maths in Key Stage 2.
Children are set particular times tables based on their ability and confidence but can explore other game modes that focus on their speed of recall or their overall fluency in all times tables.
Children will be given opportunities to work on their times tables on TTRS in school, but regular practise at home will help them to make quicker progress.
Logging In
Go to: https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student or type in ‘TTRS’ into a search engine. Click on the green button and then select ‘Schools’, then ‘Pupils’ and then select ‘Warden Park Primary Academy’ from the drop down menu. On the final page, enter their username and password. If you do not know this, please contact your child's teacher on Seesaw. The children have been shown how to do this too. Once they’re in, they just need some quiet space to get on with the games for 5 minutes.
Please ask your child’s teacher if they are struggling to log in.
Important: please don’t allow siblings, friends or family to answer for them as this can skew their data and make it harder for teachers to offer the right support. Do support your child if they’re stuck by modelling how you would answer similar questions. We would encourage you to read questions aloud for your child where appropriate.
Little and often
In order to get the best out of TTRS. children should regularly play for short bursts so we would ask you to give them the opportunity to play for 5 minutes, 3 times a week- or more if they would like!
If you are concerned about screen time or if your child's access to a device is limited, please talk to your child's teacher about which times tables they are working on and how else you can support them at home.
Game Types
Garage - the questions will only come from the times tables the teacher has set for the week. As pupils start to answer questions, TT Rock Stars works out which facts they take longer on and will give them more of these questions to answer. The Garage is best for getting quicker at a few facts. Players get 10 coins per question.
Studio - the questions in the Studio can be anything from 1×1 up to 12×12. TT Rock Stars calculates each the mean speed from their last 10 games in the Studio and translates into a Rock Status. They earn 1 coin per question and the Studio is the place for them to set their best time across all the tables.
Soundcheck - Children are asked 20 questions, each with a 6-second time limit. The questions are multiplication only and evenly weighted in terms of difficulty each time they play. This format is the same as the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) that the children will do in the Summer term.
Players earn 5 coins per correct answer.
Multiplayer
Rock Arena - The Arena allows players to compete against all other members of their band (their Bandmates would need to join the same game in order to compete together). A new Arena game starts every 15 seconds and once the clock starts they race to answer more questions than the others. In the Arena, questions will only come from the times tables the teacher has set for the week, similar to the Garage. They earn 1 coin per correct answer.
Rock Festival - The Rock Festival games are open to players from around the world. Like the Arena, there is no limit to the number of players who can join a game; however, unlike the Arena, questions are selected at random from 1×1 to 12×12. Pupils might choose the Rock Festival if they were playing at home (and therefore couldn't easily synchronise playing against a classmate) or wanted to compete against others not in their Band. They earn 1 coin per correct answer.
Reviewing your child's performance
Times Table Rockstars makes it easy to check on how your child is performing in each of their times tables and identify which facts they need to work on. Your child's heatmap can be found by clicking on 'Stats' and then the 'Fluency' tab. It will indicate their average speed in each times table and provide a colour-coded map that will highlight particular times table facts they need to work on.
Please let your child’s teacher know if you have any questions or comments.
