Agricultural Education is a program that prepares students for careers, leadership, and life through hands-on learning. These courses combine science, technology, business, mechanics, food systems, and more. Students don’t have to come from a farming background, agriculture education is for everyone and focuses on real-world skills and career exploration.
Students in ag classes:
Learn through hands-on projects and labs
Explore careers in agriculture, science, mechanics, and business
Build problem-solving and teamwork skills
Apply classroom learning to real-life situations
The 3-Circle Model
Agricultural Education is built on a three-part model that helps students learn both in and beyond the classroom. Each part works together to create a complete learning experience.
Classroom & Laboratory Instruction
Students gain knowledge and hands-on skills through agriculture courses that may include plant science, animal science, welding, mechanics, food science, natural resources, agribusiness, and more. Lessons connect science, technology, and problem-solving to real-world situations. Labs, projects, and activities allow students to practice what they learn — not just read about it.
FFA
The National FFA Organization is the student organization connected to agricultural education. It provides opportunities for students to grow as leaders, build confidence, and develop career skills. Members participate in competitions, conferences, community service, public speaking, and team activities. These experiences help students apply classroom knowledge while developing communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities.
Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE)
An SAE is a student-led project or work experience outside the classroom where they apply what they’ve learned. This could include raising animals, working at a local business, starting a small enterprise, conducting research, or volunteering in an agriculture-related field. SAEs help students explore careers, build responsibility, and gain real-world experience.
How They Work Together:
What students learn in class helps them succeed in FFA and their SAE.
FFA builds leadership skills that help in class and on the job.
SAE give real experiences students can bring back to the classroom and FFA activities.
Together, the three-circle model prepares students for college, careers, and leadership in any field, not just agriculture
