Waltham High School

This year, WHS students have a choice for their summer reading. While our theme is the 20th anniversary of 9/11, there are many stories, voices, and perspectives that experienced the events of 9/11 in different ways. Our goal is to honor all those voices, and learn more about their stories. Students can choose one of four books (although they are welcome to read them all!) for their summer reading choice. The four books are:

  • The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede

  • A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

  • The Red Bandanna by Tom Rinaldi

  • How Does it Feel to be a Problem?: Being Young and Arab in America by Moustafa Bayoumi
