The goal of the Johnson Middle School Summer Reading program is to encourage our students to read something for enjoyment. Learning goes beyond the walls of school and it can be rewarding and fun when this activity is self directed.
Before they leave for the summer, students will select a book from the list below during their one of their classes. Click on the book title and it will bring you to goodreads.com where you can learn more about that selection.
The books are sorted by genre in order to provide some guidance for selecting your summer reading book. This collection is middle school appropriate but there are some books in the Young Adult section with mature themes which are reserved for entering 8th grade students only.
Completion of a Summer Reading assignment will be due in September when we return to school. More information on the Summer Reading assignment will be posted in August.
Once you have chosen the book you would like to read this summer, fill out the Google Form and submit it with your name, grade and book choice. Click here for the form.
Step Three
Accessing your summer reading material.
JMS now has access to the Massachusetts Commonwealth eBook Collection, this is a shared collection of ebooks and audio books for schools. Use this link to access this collection. Most of our summer reading titles are available here. This shared collection can also be accessed through the SORA APP which is on the Clever landing page.
There are several options for summer reading through the local Walpole Public Library, as well as, access to the Old Colony Library Network and the Boston Public Library Collections, for borrowing an eBook or Audible book.
There are also local booksellers including Park Street Books, An Unlikely Story and Barnes and Noble.
Our Summer Reading list has been shared with all of these locations.
