Q: What if I don't know what book to read?
A: Read through the list including descriptions, genre, page length, and age range with a parent or guardian. You may want to read book reviews on Goodreads www.goodreads.com, Barnes and Noble www.barnesandnoble.com, or Common Sense Media www.commonsensemedia.org. Ask your teacher or librarian to help you find a book that fits your interest.
Q: Where do I get the summer reading book?
A: You may check out the book from the Walpole Public Library. Most of the titles also have an eBook or audiobook version available digitally through SORA. The summer reading list will also be provided to the Walpole Barnes & Noble, Park Street Books in Medfield, and An Unlikely Story in Plainville. You may also want to purchase the book from Amazon.
Q: Do I need to take notes on the book? Do I need to write a book report? How do I need to prove I read the book?
A: No, you do not need to take notes on the book. Just read and enjoy! However students will get to know their classmates in the fall through small group discussions and activities in ELA class where you will share what you enjoyed about the summer reading book.
Q: Can I listen to an audio version of the book? Can I read the book with a family member/friend?
A: Yes. We want you to think of reading as an enjoyable activity. You may listen to an audio version of the book, take turns reading aloud with a family member or friend. Sometimes it is easier to be able to talk about the book with someone as you are reading it.
Q: What if I really don't like the book I'm reading. Can I change my summer reading book?
A: Of course! Look through the list and try a different title.
