Mrs. Rathert now!
(much better haircut in my opinion)
I have always enjoyed working with kids from babysitting as a teen on to today. I am a 3rd generation teacher. My grandmother, mother, and father all taught. I completed both my undergrad and credential work at SFSU. I have also continued my education through the years receiving my Reading Specialist Credential through a St. Marys/ CAL program, and other classes.
I began teaching in Oakland for my first five years, a year in Newark, then on to Murwood in 1996. I have taught K-2 and been a Reading Specialist and Reading Recovery teacher. That's 34 years of teaching so far! This will be my 35th year as a teacher.
Recently I have jumped into tech and I am enjoying using more apps and activities in class and finding ways for the students to share their voice and work with our families, while not spending TOO MUCH time on tech. I always enjoy learning new things to share with my students.
Outside of school I have many interests. I am an avid exerciser and you can find me walking all over downtown Walnut Creek. I love Marvel movies and anything Star Wars. I am a big sports fan and will watch almost any sports on TV but especially the San Jose Sharks and the Golden State Warriors. I have 3 great kids, 2 in college in Hawaii and Arizona, and one in London who just got her teaching credential. When people tell you it goes fast, listen! It seems like just yesterday that my kids were Murwood students.
Murwood is one of my favorite places to be! And I hope you will feel the same.
