This year, homework is usually information about what we are learning in phonics that week. Students will be listing words that have the patterns we are learning to turn in. Homework comes home on Fridays in our Friday Folder and is due by the following Friday morning.
In addition to that, students are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes each day to build their reading skills.
Some things that you can do to help support your child are:
READ: Read to your child. Have your child read to you. Try to build a love of reading by adding to your child’s home library, talking about books, encourage and model reading. Go outside to read. Read under the covers. Read in the car. Reading is just about the best thing for your child to do to support his/her learning, build vocabulary, create a lifelong reader and a lover of stories.
TALK: Talk about your child’s day. Tell him/her about your day, and ask about their day. Tell stories. Ask questions to draw out the details. This will all help your child, especially when we start to write stories.
FAMILY TIME: Do something together as a family. Play a board game, go on a walk, cook together.
SLEEP: Get a good night’s sleep. Sleep is so important for your child to be ready in the morning.
BREAKFAST: Have a good breakfast. Your child needs to fuel up to be ready for the day. Remember the cafeteria has a free breakfast for everyone, every day.
Would you like a little something extra for your child? Your child may go on Clever at home and access Dreambox Math and Xtra Math, Lexia for Language Arts, Digital Reader for reading, or work on Imagine Learning if they are learning English.
