Dear Parents/Guardians:

The Town of Wallingford is excited to announce the collaboration with Town departments, social service agencies, businesses and higher education partners to chart a course for the pronouncement of the Town of Wallingford as a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) Town.

As a STEM Town, Wallingford will do its part in trying to address the national problem of over 500,000 unfilled positions in the STEM fields. Connecticut has a shortage of qualified employees to fill these positions as well. This scenario presents a crisis in the workforce that we must address in order to best prepare our students for life after high school while maintaining the viability of business and industry in Wallingford, Connecticut and the United States.

Wallingford Public Schools, along with our community partners: Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, the Wallingford Public Library, SCOW, and Youth and Social Services will be using TechTrep software in schools and in the community to increase knowledge of technology and entrepreneurship town-wide. This spring the software will be rolled out to 5th grade students with the rollout planned for grades 4-8 across the community next year.

To ensure student data is maintained with the highest level of security, TechTrep has signed a data privacy agreement with Wallingford Public Schools as required by the State of Connecticut (CT PA-189).

As part of the launch of TechTrep this spring with grade 5 students, you will be required to provide us with an email address and parent/guardian permission. There are five courses from which your child can choose one to access over the summer. Those students who participate will be eligible for a special townwide event planned for August 20. We hope that all grade 5 students and families share in our excitement for this great opportunity to engage in STEM activities for free!
