Course Selection and Schedules

Starting in January, students are given course selection presentations and a course selection sheet to choose courses for the following school year. In March, verification forms are mailed home. This is the first opportunity for students to change their requests for the following year. Again, in May, students are given a final opportunity to change their requests.  A link is made available to make changes to requests. The last day to make a change to a request every school year is the last day of school.

*Students may not always get their first elective choices. When changing requests, students need to keep in mind that unless they change their 2nd-5th choices from the original course selection sheets, those back up choices will remain as alternate selections.  Please indicate alternative choice changes on the link as well when making elective request changes.

The master schedule is based on students’ requests.  For example, if 60 students sign up for a course, 2 sections of that class will be offered.  If only 30 students sign up for an elective, only 1 section will be made. For this reason, students are not able to change their electives at the beginning of the next school year. The last day to make changes to requests is always the last day of the school year.

If there is an error to a student’s schedule, please inform the grade level counselor to correct the error. Examples of errors include:

-The student has already taken and passed the class.

-The student is in a wrong grade level course. (A 7th grade student in a 6th grade class).

-The student is missing one of their 4 core classes or has two of the same classes. (ELAR, Math, Science, and Social Studies)

Level Changes

Students are able to move from on-level to honors in a core class the first 3 weeks of school.  Students can request a level change form from their counselor.

Students can move from honors to on-level if they are failing a core course.  Students making a 70 or above in an honors class are showing success in an advanced class and are encouraged to remain in the course.  Students who continue to fail a core course by the end of the first semester may be administratively moved to an on-level course.
