Walks on the day

A Non-Profit Organization assisting the White Swan Community with Long-Term Disaster Recovery. Operated and based in Lake Andes, South Dakota

Walks on the Day is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation and is organized for charitable purposes to raise funds for the White Swan Community on the Yankton Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. The community has been impacted by compound disasters such as flooding from a bomb cyclone in March 2019 and another storm in September 2019 then affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. Funds raised will be applied to obtain food, legal representation, water purification, and replacing/repairing household items and help securing the health and well-being during the pandemic. Funds will be also be applied to any other practical needs to restore or enhance the Community.

As part of the Covid-19 relief efforts we have received a donation of batteries from the partnership of Matthew 25: Ministries and Duracell.

The White Swan Recovery Group is a grant funded group by the Center for Disaster Philanthropy. The White Swan Recovery Group works with the Center for Disaster Philanthropy for the White Swan Long-Term Disaster Recovery and works side by side with the Walks on the Day non-profit organization.

Recovery Group Project Description

White Swan Community of the Yankton Sioux Tribe in South Dakota received flooding in March and September of 2019. Many unmet recovery needs remain, and the community seeks to develop the capacity and resources to help their neighbors recover from the flood waters by creating a Long-Term Recovery Group and contracting with employees for needs assessment, provide resource advocacy, and to manage the recovery efforts.
