CRRSA ESSER II

The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act was
passed December 21, 2020. CARES Act II designated $54.3 billion in Elementary and
Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding for K-12 entities. These funds were
allocated to provide relief for the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walker County Schools was allocated $8,879,409 in ESSER II (CRRSA) funding. The
Leadership Team including the Superintendent, Directors, Coordinators, Principals, and
Assistant Principals held multiple meetings to discuss priorities of the district and the
safe re-opening plan for FY2020-2021, and also FY2021-2022. Discussions were also
held at school board planning and regular school board meetings to involve the board
and any public stakeholders.
The ESSER II budget for Walker County was submitted and approved by the Georgia
Department of Education in May 2021. Walker County Board of Education expended
$288,321.84 from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021 for retention bonuses, and
technology purchases. ESSER II expenditures from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022
were $4,140,832.30 for computers, technology devices and digital platforms for the
schools, Ombudsman program, and continuity of services for state budget decreases.
Funds were spent for PPE (masks, sanitizer, and other items for mitigating the spread of
Covid-19). Funds were spent for teacher professional development, programs for Social
Emotional support for students and staff. The district will continue to use ESSER funds
for PPE (masks, sanitizer, and other items for mitigating the spread of Covid-19). Funds
will also be spent for technology devices and digital platforms for the schools, teacher
professional development, additional teachers, programs for Social Emotional support
for students and staff. The district expended the remaining ESSER II funds July 1, 2022
through June 30, 2023.
