FIELD DAY & END OF YEAR PICNIC: THIS FRIDAY, MAY 17th
An email/SignUpGenius from our homeroom moms - Kelley and Marcela - was sent out last week asking for volunteers to help with the picnic.
Field Day: Garden Level students will participate in various games throughout the morning. Games will be led by teachers and 8th graders.
All students will be gifted a Field Day t-shirt by the school. Thank you for completing the size order form.
Picnic: All parents are invited to attend from 12:00-1:30pm:)

CURRICULUM THEME 9: CHANGES WEEK 2&3 TOPICS: Earth Changes and Nurturing Earth
This week we will combine the topics for weeks 2 and 3 as we continue to learn about and discuss changes, specifically focus on the earth.
Week 2 - Earth Changes: The children will explore earth changes that include weather, day and night, and seasons. They will explore the sun's power to notice the energy it brings to the earth.
Week 3 - Nurturing Earth: The children will explore and appreciate the beauty and the resources of the earth. They will discover ways to protect animals, plants and all the natural resources the earth provides.
CALENDAR:
Seasons of the year, months of the year, days of the week (yesterday was, today is, tomorrow will be), count by rote and recognize numbers 1-31
READING:
Read, discuss, compare and contrast, and sequence the following stories: What is Weather?; Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter; A Tree's Life; Thank You Earth: A Love Letter to Our Planet; Kate, Who Tamed the Wind; Nature's Giants; The Earth Book; Anywhere Farm; The Water Princess
LITERACY:
Our focus will continue to be on letter sounds, identification and production.
Specific focus going forward will be on letter sounds to correctly identify and produce each letter sound for letters P, Q, R, S as we revisit with our letter Letter People.

Journal Writing - Independently write letters: P, Q, R, S and numbers: 9 using the Learning Without Tears (LWT) method and drawing a corresponding picture for each letter

COUNTING CHALLENGE:
Students are asked to practice counting to 100 by the end of the school year.
Start out counting from 1-10 and then continue in increments of 10 until you reach 100.
Make sure you don't skip a number and pay close attention to those transitions from one group of ten to the next group of ten as you make your way to 100.
Keep up the great work to meet this special challenge!! So many are doing a terrific job of reaching this goal:)

Butterfly Life Cycle Update: Our butterflies have hatched!!! Everyone is so excited to see these beautiful butterflies as they gain their strength and prepare to take flight tomorrow when we have BUTTERFLY RELEASE.

SHARING:
Sharing this week will be the "Mystery Animal - Who Am I?" assignment. Thank you for working with your child to complete our last sharing project.
