Development Events & Why We Do Them!
from Liza Ferraro / Development Events Coordinator
Oct 16, 2020
Hello Friends,
Yes, it takes a village! This community continues to come together during one of the biggest challenges of our lifetimes. How grateful we are to be back in the Waldorf world with your children on campus and through homeschool, making all the effort worth it to see their smiling faces every day.
And the “it takes a village” mantra proves true in our many Development Events!
Annual Giving (October 19th – November 18th)
Winter Faire (First Saturday in December)
Spring Gala Benefit (May 2021)
First up is our 2020 Annual Giving, set to take place October 19th – November 18th, 2020. This yearly campaign directly raises funds to keep our school alive and thriving. And the entire community is asked to join in! This year’s Annual Giving goal is $150,000. Last year we reached $103K with 91% participation and looking to reach our total amount AND hit participation for 100% this year! We make it simple and easy – whether you are able to make a one-time pledge, a monthly gift, or hand in your Annual Giving envelope to one of our friendly staff at parking lot pick-up/drop-off time, THANK YOU!
Our other events serve as a neighborhood expression of care to the entire Waldorf community and bridge the gap between tuition and program costs. Your involvement in and support of Annual Giving, Winter Faire and the Spring Gala Benefit, with opportunities for individual charitable giving, product sales from Snake & Lily, and our Scrip Program are crucial. Event details are regularly made available on our ParentSquare calendar and you can expect updates and volunteer opportunities to get involved in the planning, execution and sponsorship of these great events.
Thank you for all your do for our school!
Sincerely,
Liza Ferraro
P.S. To the left of this letter you will see a full explanation of Annual Giving, why it's so important, and how your participation makes a HUGE difference for the better. Also a chart to show the current Annual Giving stats for this school year.
As a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, your charitable donation to The Waldorf School of San Diego is tax-deductible.
Annual Giving is our biggest unrestricted fundraiser and we promote it in the fall season during our Annual Giving Month Campaign! We’ll have a table out front at drop off during Sept and Oct and our goal is 100% participation! Why do we want 100% participation? It opens up many outside funding opportunities like corporate grants and donations. Big donors love to see a community that believes in itself and is committed to its mission and values. 100% participation is how we show that we deserve funding! Annual Giving donations can be a one-time gift, recurring gift or a pledge. You can also visit our website and donate online https://www.waldorfsandiego.org/donate-to-wssd/ Annual Giving donations are 100% tax deductible.
Winter Faire is usually the first Sat of December This beautiful winter celebration is not only a fundraiser, it is also a HUGE community builder. Families from all over the county come for the festivities and many times it is their first experience of our school! Music, food, fun, crafts, vendors, the Winter Forest (with opportunities to purchase holiday trees) and the Giving Tree are just some of the things that will be happening that day! (Giving Tree donations go directly to teachers for extra supplies they need).
Spring Gala Benefit usually around May Help the school and have a great night on the town! Pre-covid, the Spring Gala was a formal night of dinner, silent and live auctions, photo booths, and dancing. Like the Winter Faire it’s a “fun” and “fund” raiser.
This last June because of the pandemic we had our first ever Virtual Gala Benefit called, Stream the Waldorf Magic! The mission of this virtual benefit was:
Create connection, love, hope and joy for the whole family .. using music..videos..photos and live hosts!
Virtual community-building ‘no cost’ event open to the wider community - all friends and families welcome!
All proceeds from raffle & silent auctions to benefit the Tuition Relief Fund. (First $60k raised will be matched!)
To show our commitment to keeping our WSSD family together regardless of how the covid crisis has affected our families financially.
Showcase the community talents; students, teachers, parents and friends of WSSD!
