Through the Skills section you can choose to improve on an existing skill or learn something new. It's all about giving something a go, learning something and getting better at it, giving yourself a sense of achievement and well-being as a result. Colleges, universities and employers like to see that you are more than your academic record—they want to see that you are a well-rounded individual with life skills too!
Please Note:
While participating in physical activity may require skill, for the purpose of the Award playing sport/doing physical activity comes under the Physical Recreation Section only.
How long does the Skills section take?
1 hour each week (or 4 hours every 28 days)...
Bronze level = 3 months/13 weeks (note that Bronze participants are required to do an additional three months in one of the following activities: Skills, Service, Physical Recreation. If a participant chooses the Skills section to do their extra 3 months in, the time requirement for Skills would become 6 months/26 weeks).
Silver level = 6 months/26 weeks.
At Gold level = 12 months/52 weeks.
For direct entrants (i.e. new participants with no previous Award) to Silver or Gold levels, participants need to add 6 months to one section of their choice (i.e. Skills or Service or Physical Recreation)
