If you or someone you care for is 0 – 65 years old and needs long term support due to a physical, intellectual, neurological, sensory disability or autism. A referral can come from the person with the disability, a family/whanau member, their General Practitioner or a Health Professional Community Agency.
Carer Support provides reimbursement of some of the costs of using a support person to care and support a disabled person. This means their carer can take some time out for themselves. This can be accessed through Your Way/ Kia Roha.
Individualised Funding (IF) gives disabled people a way of directly managing their disability supports. This funding can cover personal cares, household management, and respite. It gives whanau the flexibility to employ the right person for the client. This can be accessed through Your Way/ Kia Roha.
Supported Living Payment is a weekly payment to help you if you have, or are caring for someone with a significant health condition, injury or disability meaning that suitable work is unlikely within the next 2 years. This WINZ benefit is available to students at age 16 who meet the criteria.
It is important to note that most funding options do not cover Global Developmental Delay (GDD) after about age 8. If your child was given a GDD diagnosis, it may pay to seek re assessment ASAP.
