Personal Statement
I am an immigrant from the Philippines and moved here with my mom in 1988. Since then, I have lived in California (LA, Orange County), Chicago, Illinois, and Portland, OR and now here in Hilo. I am happily married and have 2 boys. My husband and I always dreamt of living in Hawaii to reconnect with our islander culture so we made the big move last November 2017, bought a house in Pahoa in February. We’ve been greeted by the lava and a hurricane so far but we intend to make Hilo and Pahoa our home for a long while! I am grateful for the beauty that surrounds us here on the island. As a culinary teacher, I intend to cook and eat a lot and share some of Filipino heritage with my students!
