Mindfulness

Mindfulness

“Mindfulness can reduce anxiety and stress, boost our mood and improve our focus, while also helping our relationships, sleep and general wellbeing.

Mindfulness is simply about being in the moment, observing our thoughts, our aurongo or emotions, and the world around us.

What we do every day matters more than what we do once in a while. While brief mindful moments may seem insignificant, over time their impact really adds up.”

- Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand

There are lots of ways to be mindful, and your teachers will probably help you do some in class. You can also come to the library at Break 2 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays where Kirsten leads 10 Minutes of Mindfulness.

Here are some ideas you can try to create Mindful Moments for yourself - there are enough for you to try a different one each day of the month. They only take about 30 seconds, but doing something little like this every day can make a huge difference to your wellbeing.

You could ask your teacher to print the pages out and cut them up into cards - put them somewhere you will see everyday, like by your bed or bathroom mirror or on the fridge door.
