I am Mrs. Austin, the middle school librarian. My goal is to assist and teach students and staff to find and use the resources they need to complete curricular assignments and/or personal pursuit of knowledge. I am also happy to recommend and help locate reading material whether it be an assignment for class or reading for fun! Please ask questions of any of the library staff when you need help.
Hello! I am one of two librarians that work in the Middle/High School Library. I have worked in both public and school libraries, and have been at VVS for twenty years. I worked at the Dallas Public Library while working on my Master's degree at The University of North Texas. Upon graduation I accepted the middle school library position at Vivian Field Middle School in Carrollton, Texas. When my family moved back to New York I worked for the Onondaga Public Library before taking the position here at VVS. I enjoy working with the students here and have two college age children. I enjoy reading, traveling, and hiking. Besides two children, I also have two cats at home Oreo and Cookie! They are sisters that we brought home from Wanderer's Rest.
My mission as a library media specialist is to provide support within our school community by collaborating with teachers to integrate and teach information, technology, and literacy skills in the curriculum; and, to foster an interest in reading to develop comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency for student success. I believe that each student is a unique individual who needs a safe and secure environment physically and emotionally in which to learn. Employing a variety of teaching strategies will reach students of diverse learning abilities. These transferable reading, information, and technology skills and strategies help students with their lifelong information needs, intellectual growth, and achievement.
