COURSE DESCRIPTION: Aerospace Science IV is the fourth-year course in Military Science. The course
consists of three components: Leadership Education (60%), Aerospace Science (20%), and Wellness/Physical
Fitness (20%).
The Aerospace Science portion (AS-400) allows the cadets to manage the entire Corps. This hands-on
experience allows cadets to practice theories of previous leadership courses. Cadets will participate in planning,
organizing, coordinating, directing, controlling, and decision-making. They will practice communication,
decision-making, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. Cadets will be required to complete
weekly staff reports, attend weekly staff meetings and complete other tasks related to the management of the
Cadet Corps.
The Leadership Education portion (LE-400) provides exposure to management fundamentals. The textbook
contains many leadership topics that will benefit students and provide them with some of the necessary skills
needed to practice what they have learned during their time in AFJROTC. We are confident this course, coupled
with what cadets have already learned during their time in AFJROTC, will equip them with the qualities needed
to serve in leadership positions within the Corps. Throughout the text are many ethical dilemmas, case studies,
and role-play activities built into the lessons. These activities are based on real-life experiences and will allow
students to practice what they learn by participating in discussions and expressing their opinions.
Additionally, cadets will assist the instructors with teaching/facilitating the fundamentals of Drill and
Ceremonies. This portion of the course concentrates on the elements of military drill, and describes individual
and group precision movements, procedures for saluting, drill, ceremonies, reviews, parades, and the
development of the command voice. Students are provided detailed instruction on ceremonial performances and
protocol for civilian and military events and have the opportunity to personally teach/facilitate drill. Most of the
work will be hands-on.
