It is important to understand that once identified as gifted, a child is always considered gifted. Although districts in Ohio are required to identify students as gifted, it is up to each district to determine if and how they will serve these gifted students in their schools.
How does VEVS serve gifted students?
Versailles Elementary School:
Grades served: 3rd & 4th grades
Students are cluster grouped with other gifted students in their reading and math classes. Teachers complete ongoing gifted professional development and work with the gifted coach to create differentiated and enriched learning experiences for the gifted students in their classroom. These students have Written Education Plans (WEPs) and the teachers work to help the students reach their WEP goals for reading, math and/or superior cognitive identifications.
Versailles Middle School
Grades served: 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th grades
VMS provides two different gifted service models with teachers who are receiving ongoing professional development in educating gifted students:
MATH:
Gifted math students will be accelerated starting in the 5th grade. They will receive accelerated content and take the next grade level's state test or end of course exam. Parents will attend an informational meeting prior to this acceleration to learn about the various options for their child. These students will have both a Written Education Plan (WEP; written each year) and a Written Acceleration Plan (WAP; written in the 5th grade).
READING/ELA:
Gifted reading and superior cognitive students will be cluster grouped with other gifted students. The classroom teacher will work with the gifted coach to provide differentiation and enrichment to help students grow and reach their Written Education Plan (WEP) goals.
Versailles High School:
Grades Served: Can be served in grades 9-12 depending on courses taken.
Gifted students in high school are considered served if taking a College Credit Plus (CCP) class in their area of giftedness. Versailles offers a variety of CCP classes taught by trained teachers to fulfill this service.
