Meet Dr. Vanessa Diaz
PSYCHOLOGY
Dr. Vanessa Diaz graduated with a Ph.D. and Master's degree in Developmental Psychology from the University of Florida. Dr. Diaz completed concentrations in Neuroscience and Methodology, while focusing her research on bilingual children in the United States. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida International University in Miami, where she obtained a minor in French Language and Culture. Her research interests include bilingualism, socio-cognitive development, theory of mind, executive functioning, language development, and immigrant families.

Catalog Description:
Survey of the process of language acquisition for children exposed to two languages during their early development. Cognitive development in children growing up in bilingual homes. Exploration of the effects of family factors, social experiences, cultural language norms, and language policies on bilingual children and adults in the current transnational environment of immigration and globalization. The effects of heritage language preservation on cultural identity and issues of equity related to linguistic discrimination in the United States.
