Meet Dr. Charlie Farrington
ENGLISH
Dr. Charlie Farrington is a visiting assistant professor in the Department of English at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on sociolinguistic variation and change in dialects of American English. Recently, he has worked on segmental variation in varieties of African American Language. Additionally, with Tyler Kendall, Charlie is one of the developers of the Corpus of Regional African American Language (CORAAL), the first public corpus of AAL data, and maintains the Online Resources for African American Language (oraal.github.io). As part of this work, he is interested in the preservation and access of audio recordings that can benefit future linguistic work. At Virginia Tech, Charlie teaches ENGL 1514 (Language in Society), ENGL/WGS 3144 (Gender and Linguistics), and ENGL/RLCL/SOC 3144 (Language and Ethnicity in the US).
