"Communication is the foundation of relationships,
learning, and self-expression."
COMMUNICATION MATTERS!
Communication is the active process of exchanging information and ideas. Communication involves both understanding and expression. Forms of expression may include personalized movements, gestures, objects, vocalizations, verbalizations, signs, pictures, symbols, printed words, and output from augmentative and alternative (AAC) devices.
-American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
The goal for communication is to allow all individuals to meaningfully interact with others and effectively express their needs, wants, feelings, and preferences.
The National Joint Committee developed The Communication Bill of Rights to ensure the basic rights of persons with severe disabilities to affect, through communication, the conditions of their existence.
