Abiola Akanmu received her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering (Construction Management) from The Pennsylvania State University in 2012. She also earned an M.Sc. in Structural Engineering and a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering from Bayero University Kano, Nigeria, in 2004 and 1999, respectively. With six years of professional experience in structural engineering and construction firms, she brings both academic and industry expertise to her work. She is currently a Professor in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC) at Virginia Tech, where she leads the Smart Systems Laboratory. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on advancing the integration of emerging technologies and computational methods in the construction industry, ensuring that both current and future workforces are equipped with the skills needed to adopt, apply, and sustain innovation. She has received several federal, state, and industry-sponsored research grants and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Department Award for Outstanding Service to Students, the College Awards for Excellence in Scholarship and Outreach, and the College of Engineering Faculty Fellow Award.
Ebenezer Olukanni received his M.Eng. in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, in 2018. He is currently a Ph.D. student at the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. His research interests include Construction Robotics, Workforce Development, and Smart Construction.
Anthony Yusuf received his M.Sc. in Quantity Surveying from Obafemi Awolowo University in 2021. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. His research interests include Workforce Development, Machine Learning, and Smart Construction.
Akinwale received his B.Sc. in Quantity Surveying from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria in 2016. He has experience working in the construction industry. He is currently a PhD student at the Myers Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. His research interests include Ergonomics, Wearable Robots, Extended Reality, Deep Learning and Digital Twin technology.
Mohammad is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in civil engineering at Virginia Tech. He received a BS in civil engineering and MS in construction management. He has versatile industry experience with an international exposure to multiple heavy construction projects. His research interests include construction sensing technologies, sensor data analytics, Machine Learning, Human-Computer Interactions, and End-User Development.
Adedeji Afolabi is a Research Associate in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. He received his Ph.D. degree in Building Technology (Construction Management) from Covenant University, Nigeria in 2018, and M.Sc. Construction Management and B.Sc. Building from University of Lagos, Nigeria in 2012 and 2009, respectively. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, he was a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Building Technology, Covenant University. His research interest include Digital Construction, Construction Education and Sustainable Construction.
Nihar received his MS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2021. He is an incoming PhD student at the Myers Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. His research interests include Construction Ergonomics and Exoskeletons, Machine Learning, and Mixed Reality.
Johnson received his BS in Civil Engineering from the Ogun State University, Nigeria in 2015. He is currently a PhD student at the Myers Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. His research interests include Cyber-physical systems, Machine learning, and Mixed reality for workforce education and Ergonomics.
Bola received her BSc and MSc in Quantity Surveying from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria in 2014 and 2019, respectively. She is currently a PhD student at the Myers Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech. Her research interests include Sensing, Machine learning, and Mixed reality for workforce education, Ergonomics and Exoskeletons.
Anubhav is pursuing his Master's in Engineering - Computer Science from Virginia Tech and is expected to graduate in May 2023. His concentration is in Software Engineering and has interests in Web, Mobile Application Development, and Machine Learning. He also has prior industry experience with firms like STMicroelectronics and Mathworks. He is looking forward to joining the industry back after his graduation.
Nuo received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Shandong University in July 2014. He recently completed MS in Computer Science from Virginia Tech. His research interests include computer vision, machine learning and virtual environments.
Sam is currently an undergraduate student at the Computer Engineering department in Virginia Tech.
