SAHAJIYA NATH

Hello!

I am Sahajiya Nath (she/her).

My name is pronounced Shaw-Hoe-Jee-Yah (সহজিয়া).

My life and academic journey have taken me across a range of places and disciplines, each shaping how I think about language, technology, and communication. Originally from the suburbs of Kolkata, India, I immigrated to the USA more than a decade ago. I began with a foundation in literature in India, where I developed a deep appreciation for narrative, analysis, and critical thought. That interest soon expanded into digital humanities, where I explored how technology can be used to interpret and present humanistic knowledge. From there, I moved into the field of technical communication—first as a consultant, helping organizations communicate complex ideas more clearly, and later as a student and researcher after moving to the United States. Since then, I have studied technical and professional communication, and I am currently a PhD candidate in the English department's Rhetoric and Writing program at Virginia Tech. My specialization is in technical communication, with a focused interest in regulatory writing—a field where clear, accessible, and ethical thinking are not just valuable, but vital.

My current research interests include regulatory writing and legal communication, immigration rhetoric, feminist rhetoric, social justice, accessibility, and AI. In my dissertation work, I am studying the US immigration policies and the communication practices of governmental organizations and academic institutes in terms of social justice and accessibility.
