I'm Kelly . . . the daughter of a quilter. My mom has tried many times over the years to teach me and encourage me to learn to piece quilts but I can't seem to sew a straight line! Certainly a skill that quilters need! Mom started making small quilts for children who are misplaced from their homes for various reasons and wanted a little help putting the quilts together after she finished the quilt tops. Sometimes you just need a little motivation to learn something new . . . providing a little something that might be comforting for kids that are facing a big challenge in their life was the motivation I needed!
I started off with a small machine and a small frame in Mom's family room. After a lot of trial and error and a ton of tension problems I finally started to find my groove. A friend or two that were willing to let me do their quilting for free helped out a lot too -- thankful for friends that were willing to take a chance on my slow developing skill.
I still do the quilting for Mom's kid's quilts that get donated to the local women's shelter but I also enjoy working on quilts for my customers as well. New quilters are some of my favorite customers. While the quilts may not have perfect blocks and tight seams, they were clearly made with enthusiasm and a growing interest in learning to do something new with roots in the "good ol' days".
I like to try new quilting designs and will spend time before working on each quilt to find a design that suits the quilt. Customers can request designs too! I try hard to add more to the quilt to make it a great addition to anyone's collection, home, or to be given as a gift.
I design most of my own quilting designs. I'm happy to share some of them. Click on the links below for a pdf document with the designs that you might be able to use for yourself. Have fun!
