Culpeper County planned a pretty awesome Farm Tour on our regular meeting date. So please plan to visit some of the participating Culpeper County Farms on 9/16 or 9/17. Full details here: https://culpeperfarmtour.com/
We will learn about their no-till, no-pesticide garden, visit their small farm animals, and then learn the basics of pickleball with Gizmo Pickleball (co-owner of the farm and professional pickleball player).
We will see this farm's rotational grazing system on a hayride, learn about erosion with Friends of the Rappahannock, and then plant some trees to help prevent runoff into the Rappahannock River.
We will learn about their grain finished Hereford operation, and what is takes to raise a successful show steer.
We will tour the Little Fork Fire and Rescue facilities and learn about their large animal rescue operations. Then we will get to try our hand at a horse rescue simulation using some of their equipment.
We will learn about growing giant produce from Jason Loris. Jason broke the world record for the biggest Butternut Squash (it weighed in at 131.5 lbs!). 4-Her's that plan to participate in 4-H Contest Day will have an opportunity to practice their speech. 4-H Contest Day is generally held in early March.
We will learn how this farm that produces Breeding Stock, Freezer Beef and Pork and High Quality Hay.
We will tour the Fauquier Education Farm and then help with a planting project. All produce grown at the Fauquier Education Farm is donated to local food banks.
We will meet the dairy cows at Nolandia Farm and get to see how a robotic milker works.
