4-H In-School Delivery Methods

4-H School Enrichment is designed to strengthen the students’ knowledge of school subject-matter areas, thus complimenting what the school is teaching. This programming takes place during school hours and rarely use the club meeting model. Enrichment usually happens in the following forms:

Special programs: Programs have a format developed by Extension, may be seasonal; require more planning and resources by the Extension Office

Enrichment: Agent or Extension volunteer visits classroom(s) and leads an activity(s) with students to introduce or compliment subject matter

Curriculum: Materials is provided by 4-H and possibly involves a teacher training, is used in the classroom by teachers, there may be a cost in some instances

Check-out: Kits or materials that can be borrowed from the Extension office by school teachers, 4-H club leaders or Extension Volunteers.

In-school 4-H clubs (9 through 18 years of age) meet during school hours, are school system approved, and have elected youth officers.

After-school 4-H clubs (9 through 18 years of age) meet after school hours, usually right after the school day in a school or public building; use 4-H materials; and may or may not have elected youth officers (depending on its organizational setup, short- or long-term club).
