Teaching

Teaching is one of my favorite things. I like the face when they understand the things I taught. I like to interact with them. I would like to be both their teacher and friend! As a doctoral student, I don't view teaching as a requirement for graduation, but as an interesting thing to do.

I won the Jesse C. Arnold Award for teaching excellence, offered by Department of Statistics, Virginia Tech.

CMDA Capstone Project course (TA)

Fall 2018, mentoring three capstone teams

  • Freshman15: helped The Division of Information Technology to assess the effectiveness of the digital experience that is provided to Virginia Tech’s incoming students.
  • Frog Team: developed an image classifier so that a photo of the frog can be classified into one of the 16 species, using the about 1000 photos of frogs from Borneo.
  • Octonauts: leverage google's tensorflow framework to perform image classification on one of the largest pre-classified publicly available datasets of overhead imagery provided by the government agency DIUx (NGA).

Probability and Statistics for Electrical Engineers (Instructor)

STAT 4714 is an undergraduate Statistics class designed for Electrical Engineering students. It introduces the concepts of probability, random variables, estimation, hypothesis testing, regression. emphasis on application in electrical engineering.

Statistics for Engineers (Instructor)

STAT 4705 is the first course of "Statistics for Engineers" series, which is designed for undergraduate general Engineering students. STAT 4705 is calculus based mathematical statistics introducing fundamental stats: probability, random variables, sampling distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing; followed by STAT 4706 introducing simple linear regression correlation, one-way analysis of variance, Multiple regression, analysis of variance, factorial and fractional experiments.

I have also been SPSS tutor, AP Statistics tutor, high school mathematics tutor before, but teaching materials are hard to find now.
