Problem Statement

The eastern brook trout is the only native trout to the Appalachian Mountain Range and is used as an indicator of good water quality. Trout habitats are being influenced by land use changes and stream crossings. One such crossing is a privately owned culvert over Entry Run in Stanardsville, VA, which collapsed in 2018. With funding from the USFWS, an upgraded crossing will be designed that optimizes wildlife passage, is resilient to flooding, reduces streambank erosion, and gives the public access to Shenandoah National Park from Greene County.
