A group from FCMRG traveled to Leesburg, VA in mid June to attend and present at the NAPCRG PBRN conference. We had four student posters* (Snigdha, Jamie, Jacob, and Brianna), one student oral presentation* (Matthew), and Dr. Rockwell presented on an AHRQ Cross-Grantee Panel about EvidenceNow: Managing Unhealthy Alcohol Use along with Gaby Villalobos from VCU (lead Practice Facilitator from the Virginia Team). Learn more about the Unhealthy Alcohol Use (UAU) study here:

Dr. Rockwell, in collaboration with a team from UCLA, University of Michigan, and Milliman MedInsight, presented their work about the utilization of non-FDA-authorized COVID-19 pharmaceuticals at ARM in Baltimore, MD in June. Nearly $500 million in spending was associated with COVID-19-related use of ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine.
Dr. Epling presented his work on Delay and Probability Discounting Behavior in Primary Care Clinicians and Association with Low Value Care and earned Paper of the Year. Congrats, Dr. Epling!
Dr. Rockwell presented Nationwide Utilization and Spending for Unproven COVID-19 PHarmaceuticals in Ambulatory Care Before and After FDA Authorization of COVID-19 Pharmaceuticals at SGIM and was a Hamolsky Finalist for her work. Congrats!
evaluates the impact of multiple chronic conditions status on the relationship between “sludge” (a behavioral economics concept that describes administrative burdens and frictions, e.g., repetitive paperwork, cumbersome technology, long waits) and delayed or foregone colorectal cancer screenings
leading research to evaluate the impact of an electronically-administered patient education video on chronic over-the-counter NSAID use in high-risk patients
evaluates the implementation of a community health worker program for hypertension and type 2 diabetes management in primary care using the RE-AIM framework
evaluates the longitudinal health impact of switching from chronic opioid therapy to chronic NSAID therapy in patients with chronic kidney disease
Nate spent his second summer with the FCMRG and provided invaluable contributions to several of our ongoing projects. He contributed significantly to the progress of the Lifestyle Medicine Clinic evaluation by facilitating the distribution of the patient survey. He also helped Nancy with her evaluation of the implementation of a community health worker program. We are excited to be able to continue working with Nate while he returns to JMU for his final year of undergraduate studies.
Dr. Rockwell was featured on AHRQ's website highlighting her time as a NCEPCR Research Fellow.
Jamie Turner, MPH, CHES (TBMH) and Jacob Blaukovitch (TBMH) were selected for the Virginia Rural Health Association board. Congratulations!
