We are excited about you joining the team! The Delta Overload Robotics Program is an annual after school program that is a partnership between the Sunflower County Consolidated School District, Mississippi Valley State University and Virginia Tech. This program is a sponsored project of the National Science Foundation (NSF)and is designed to actualize the STEM potential in the Mississippi Delta. This afterschool program introduces students to various STEM applications such as engineering design, computer programming, electronics, CADD design, regardless of skill level or experience (we serve beginners to advanced). In addition, students have the opportunity to engage in various media opportunities. We also expose students to a variety STEM careers and provide college readiness workshops to promote the success of our students. During the fall semester we focus on cultivating engineering design skills as it relates to computer programming, electronics, and CADD design. Students will use their design and skills to create their own engineering prototype which they will showcase during the annual community STEM Night. In addition, students will use these skills in the design of a robot that will compete in the national robotics competition known as FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) that occurs during the spring semester and sign up today!

During the spring semester we participate in the annual FIRST robotics national competition. Our team, known as Delta Overload Team #6068 has done an outstanding job placing in the Bayou Regional competition for several years and during the 2019 year we placed in the worlds competition for FIRST robotics. Although our team is relatively new, our students with the help of various mentors have become skilled in designing competitive robots. So how does all this work? In January, FIRST robotics issues a challenge to all robotics team worldwide. The challenge requires that the robot is able to complete a series of tasks. Typically, each robotics team is given 6 weeks to build this robot which also has size restraints. This six weeks, known as build season, is critical as students use the knowledge and experiences that they learned from the fall semester and apply it to engineering a competition robot. Once the robot is complete, we attend the Bayou Regional competition housed in New Orleans, LA. During competition all robotics teams build competition alliances to win the opportunity to compete in worlds competition usually held in Houston, TX.

In addition, during the spring semester we conduct college readiness workshops. Some of these workshops entail field trips to provide exposure and opportunities to explore a variety of career options. Lastly, the Delta Overload students hold an annual summer camp to share their knowledge about engineering design and robotics with younger students in the community. Check out our virtual summer camp from 2020 .We would love for you to become a part of our Delta Overload family! Sign up today!
