Grace Miller Elementary School (6248 Catlett Rd., Bealeton, VA 22712)
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Monday February 24, 2025
Fauquier County 4-H Contest Day will feature opportunities for youth to compete in Presentations, Public Speaking, Extemporaneous Speech, Fashion Revue, Share-the-Fun Contest, Table Setting, Science Fair, and Radio & Public Address Contests. This is a great opportunity to test out public speaking skills in a positive and supportive environment. Youth in presentations and public speaking contests choose their own topics and are encouraged to speak about anything that interests them. Experienced adult public speakers will serve as judges for this event and provide all youth with feedback. 4-H members may enter in more than one contest, but no more than three, if so desired, and will be scheduled to accommodate their registration requests.
The schedule for the day is as follows:
8:30 a.m. – Judge / Room Host Orientation
9:00 a.m. – Registration
9:30 a.m. –Contests begin
12:00 p.m. – Judges’ Comments and Closing
4-H members must pre-register by February 24, 2025 by submitting the registration form on 4-H online. Please carefully review the contest guidelines and example videos to prepare for this event.
All contest participants age 9 - 19 will receive a blue, red, or white Danish ribbon (meaning that they do not compete against each other). All blue-ribbon winners will receive $10 4-H gift certificates which can be used for any 4-H event including 4-H Camp. Age is determined by the age the 4-H member will be on September 30, 2024. Cloverbuds (ages 5-8) may participate; however, since Cloverbuds is a non-competitive program, they will receive Cloverbud participation ribbons.
No videotaping of performances except your own child. Judges may ask questions of contestants, but spectators may not ask contestants questions. Use of note cards is acceptable, but no cue cards from the audience are allowed.
This year's Northwest District Contest Day is scheduled for April 26, 2025 (location to be announced). The District Contest is open to all county competitors, except Cloverbuds. All senior 4-H members (age 14 - 19) are eligible to compete in State 4-H Congress Contests, June 24-27, 2025 in Blacksburg, Virginia. Senior 4-H members that participate in contests at the state level will be awarded scholarship funds to attend the event (the amount is determined by ribbon placements at county and district contests).
We will need five room chairs for this event – senior 4-H members who are not competing and parents may volunteer for this role by filling out the volunteer form.

Thank you for your encouragement and support of our 4-H members as they get involved in Fauquier 4-H Contest Day. This is an excellent learning opportunity for our youth and I would like all of our 4-H clubs to be represented at the event.
