AWT4CL Update for September 2025
Blog Series on Learning Badges: As a reminder, resources are available for the AWT4CL employability skill badges, including a complete blog series on the available badges. Please check out the Series Introduction: Building Employability through Digital Learning Badges. This and other contributions are available on the AWT4CL blog: https://sites.google.com/vt.edu/awt/blog
Recipe for Workforce Success: Strada recently featured Virginia’s recipe for a thriving regional workforce. The analysis revealed an important point: “When educators approach their work with an agile and nimble mindset, employers can better trust and depend on the partnership.” What is one thing you can do this week or this month to demonstrate such agility?
Career Readiness: The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) maintains a prominent framework for career readiness, including eight competencies: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork, and Technology. Which of these competencies will you emphasize this academic year?
STAR Interview: How do you translate experiences into skills an employer is looking for? Try the STAR method, framing interview question responses on the Situation, Task, Action, and Result (STAR). For more insight, check out AgHires blog post: “How to Answer Behavioral Interview Questions Using the STAR Method.”
Future Updates: The AWT4CL project was funded for five years through the USDA-NIFA Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. We received a no-cost extension for activities through the last four months, and the AWT4CL project has now officially concluded. We are seeking additional funding for sustaining and advancing the work. In the meantime, we will discontinue these monthly updates. However, if you have any requests related to the project materials, please reach out to Dr. Eric Kaufman at ekaufman@vt.edu
This work is supported by Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) 2020-67037-31032 1022287 from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Inquiries about the project should be directed to Dr. Eric K. Kaufman, the primary investigator. Additional information about the grant is available online at the USDA-NIFA project portal.
