This is a brief update on the Agriculture Workforce Training for Collaborative Leadership (AWT4CL) project. Our intent is to send a message like this once a month to keep various stakeholders informed of activities and opportunities related to the project. AWT4CL Update for December 2024

Skills-Based Hiring:  As employers place more and more emphasis on skills, educational institutions are responding.  An Inside Higher Ed article considers how experiential learning and microcredentials are supporting the movement toward skills-based hiring. Look for a future update to learn how the AWT4CL project is helping to meet this need.

Collaborate and Listen:  “Our abilities to effectively communicate, develop empathy and think critically have allowed humans to collaborate, innovate and adapt for millenniums.” That point is made by two workforce experts, and they argue the skills are more important than ever.  Read more in The New York Times article: “When Your Technical Skills are Eclipsed, Your Humanity Will Matter More Than Ever” (Raman & Flynn, 2024). 

Novice, Yet Ready: A recent interview tips video from AgHires tackles a common scenario: answering questions about areas where you lack experience.  Where deficiencies exist, there is an opportunity to showcase a commitment to learning.  For more insight and advice, check out “The Interview Question You're Answering Wrong.”
