AWT4CL Update for February 2024
Fresh Year, Fresh Perspective: Starting a new year may come with mixed emotions and feelings. In a recent blog post, Dr. Megan Seibel tells us how fresh perspectives with SMART goals can help us successfully navigate the tensions that accompany a new year. The icing on the cake is connections with the PDSA model and KAI cognitive styles. All the AWT4CL project-related blog posts are available at https://sites.google.com/vt.edu/awt/blog
VCCS Peer Group Meeting: The inaugural meeting of the VCCS Peer Group for Agriculture and Food Systems occurred on January 12th, in conjunction with a check-in for the AWT4CL cohort. More details on project activities are posted on the AWT4CL Engagement and Outreach page.
Durable Skills Advantage: Based on analysis of keywords in more than 80 million job postings, CompTia and America Succeeds have published the Durable Skills Advantage Framework. Which competencies are you already featuring in your educational program(s)? How might you use this framework in curriculum design and/or marketing of your program(s)?
A Century-Long Skills Gap: Do you wonder why “soft skills” are being referred to as “durable skills”? It’s because they have lasting value in the workforce. More than a century ago, research revealed only 15% of job success comes from technical skills and knowledge; the rest can be attributed to relational skills. For more insight, check out the National Soft Skills Association’s posts on “The Real Skills Gap” and “The Soft Skills Disconnect.”
Virtual Tour of a Cooperative: The "My Local Cooperative" initiative is maintained by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) and includes valuable resources for students to learn about agricultural careers associated with cooperatives. Through support from the CHS Foundation, you (and your students) can experience the resources through an interactive virtual tour of a cooperative.
