AWT4CL Update for December 2023

VCCS Peer Group:  The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) has a new VCCS Peer Group for Agriculture and Food Systems.  In a recent blog post, Adam O’Neal shared his perspective and vision for the peer group, highlighting opportunities for knowledge-sharing among faculty and stakeholders.

Future of Work: As 2023 winds down, stakeholders are sharing perspectives about the world of work, and a recent survey of U.S.-based workers offers insights for the year 2024 and beyond. How might you relay these perspectives to students preparing for the agriculture workforce?

Career Role Models Matter: Based on a survey of early- and mid-career adults aged 18 to 40, the Gallup-Amazon Role Models Matter report examines working Americans’ exposure to career education and how it affected their chosen career paths.  The report highlights important implications for continued attention to career role models.

Physical Spaces Contribute to Student Success: As highlighted by Inside Higher Ed, the physical environment plays significant roles in students’ skill development potential. Several universities are now using physical space designs (e.g., brain gym, reflection room, and low sensory room) to enhance students’ development prospects. How might this influence classroom expectations?

Call for Abstracts: The North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) organization is now accepting abstracts for presentation at its annual conference.  Please consider sharing your ideas and insights. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2024. For more information on the call, go to http://nactaabstracts.org/
