AWT4CL Update for January 2023
New Year, Better You: Have you set any goals for the new year? An article from AgHires encourages “5 Career Goals to Set for the New Year,” and the first goal is to “develop a new skill.” You can pair that idea with an article from the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL), “Soft Skill Development: The Human Skills Needed for Success at Each Leader Level.” Importantly, CCL argues, “Even when people don’t have direct reports, they still need leadership skills.” What new skill(s) will you develop this year?
Cohort Blogging: Last month, Ben Castell provided insights into how he has incorporated gamification into the curriculum. In Ben’s blog post, you can learn more about how to apply a guiding principle: “Do It Well. Make It Fun.” All of the AWT4CL project-related blog posts are available at the following URL: https://sites.google.com/vt.edu/awt/blog
New Horizons Conference Call: How might you contribute “Beyond Ideas,” the theme for this year’s New Horizons conference? One of the five key conference areas is Workforce Development, which certainly aligns with the AWT4CL project. The deadline for session proposals is January 23rd. More details are available at https://www.cvent.com/c/abstracts/8232dd87-b611-4015-ba56-5ed2758a756b
NACTA Call for Abstracts: The North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) organization is now accepting abstracts for presentation at its annual conference. Please consider sharing your ideas and insights. The deadline for submissions is February 1st. For more information on the call, go to http://nactaabstracts.org/
Cohort Connect: The cohort will be meeting January 13th to share their experiences and plans related to Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) projects. Other discussion topics include opportunities with upcoming conferences (NACTA & New Horizons) as well as learning badges related to the APLU employability skills.
